Meindl have been making walking boots and shoes commercially since 1928, but the family line of shoemakers dates back to 1683. Based in Kirchanschöring, Germany, Meindl have grown from humble beginnings to a well-know brand in the field of walking, hiking and mountaineering.
Shoes and boots are essentially made by hand, overseen by master shoe makers, albeit using modern technology through the design and manufacturing process (cutting, sewing etc)
Meindl offer a guarantee in good faith on the basis the boot or shoe will get a good lifetime of use, which for most premium quality boots is up to 1000 miles (allowing for terrain) rather than a limited one year guarantee.
Meindl were one of the first boot makers in Europe to embrace Gore-Tex technology and they internally test gore-tex material before stamping it with Meindl and using it in their products.
They also test their products under 9G's of stress to ensure they perform well in extreme wet conditions.
